Ice skaters carve up the rink with stunt-filled routine to Disturbed’s ‘Sound of Silence’

The rock band Disturbed released their own rendition of Simon & Garfunkel’s hit, “The Sound of Silence”, many years ago now and one thing has remained consistent.

It’s been celebrated in circles from all walks of life. One place it’s not as frequently played, however, is in the world of figure skating.

Two figure skaters, Vaness James and Margan Cipres, absolutely owned the show in a Tokyo figure skating competition.

They danced to “Sound of Silence”.

The result was an impossible-to-forget performance.

The free skating pair skated to the song at the International Skating Union’s World Team Trophy competition in Japan.

During their incredible athletic and beautiful display of figure skating abilities, they had everyone watching enthralled.

When the song and their performance were over, they brought the audience and judges to their feet.

It was a heart-stopping performance.

No one was prepared for the magic that was about to happen on the ice.

They were both in black for their performance that would go with the somber yet haunting song by Disturbed.

They got into position on the ice, their heads slightly bowed, and then the music began. As the first soft notes of the song started to fill the air, they began to move.

As the duo came together on the ice, the performance officially began.ADVERTISEMENT

The pair moved in magnificent harmony.

Each of their moves complimented the other’s during their flawless routine.

With each spin, each incredible jump, even as he held her high above him in the air, they never faltered even for a moment.

Is there chemistry off the ice?

It’s not just their technical perfection and amazing skating that people notice.

When the skating partners are together, you can see genuine happiness on their faces when they look at each other as they carve the ice together.

People have their speculations.

In fact, it’s one of the most commented things about the pair:

“I always feel like I’m watching a love story. I don’t get tired of watching them. Their coaches and choreographers are romantic, creative and talented.”

“It’s like they are one person but it’s two people. Like two hearts beating as one they are so in sync together it almost unreal. Such fun to watch.”

“Their chemistry is off the charts!!!!! I’m going to cry like a baby when they retire!!!! 😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️❤️”

It’s only reasonable that they have sparked a few rumors with how in love they appear to be.

For the time being, we’re just going to have to keep wondering. There have been no confirmations from the pair.

What they do share is skill.

And they share it abundantly along with their passion for taking on a challenge.

Morgan swung Vanessa incredibly close to the ice in one exquisitely choreographed moment during the performance.

She showed complete trust in him.

This trust allowed them to come out of the swing effortlessly. They had obviously practiced it countless times together.

In fact, the pair have been working together for quite a while.ADVERTISEMENT

They began skating together in 2010.

Vanessa recalled those early days:

“I remember our 3-day trial and it was so fun. He was so funny, because he had never done pairs before, so he was really nervous and saying ‘oh my gosh, oh my gosh’ every time he threw me. I knew that we were going to be good friends.”

They earned a competition-crushing score.

The duo left the competition after earning first place – as if they could get anything less with that perfect combination of music and figure skating ability as well as the chemistry that the skating partners share when they are together on the ice.

In all honesty, there are no words that could do this performance justice or convey the sheer emotion of seeing their chemistry combined with such intense stuntwork on the ice.

All to the sound of one of the world’s most-loved songs, no less.
